Instrument Rating

The instrument rating certification course is designed to prepare the applicant to operate safely in the Air Traffic Control (ATC) system anywhere in the world. Airlines throughout the world indicate that during the hiring process, instrument flying skills are rated above everything else.

Applicant will receive a minimum of 35 hours of flight instruction and 60 hours of ground and/or classroom instruction which includes use of our advanced flight training device (Simulator).* Ground school instruction includes preflight preparation and procedures related to IFR operations; meteorology; aircraft flight instruments including navigation equipment and their principal means of operation; IFR clearances and related procedures; IFR holding procedures including IFR flight planning; IFR approaches using ILS, VOR, LOC, NDB, and GPS systems; and postflight procedures.

Flight training syllabus includes preflight procedures; instrument and avionics systems operation; navigation equipment; flight by reference to flight instruments only; departure, enroute, and arrival procedures; emergency operations and postflight procedures.

* San Diego Flight Training International does not guarantee that students will satisfactorily complete their selected course of training in the minimum hours described. Our flight simulator can only be used dual. In addition, San Diego Flight Training International reserves the right to institute a fuel surcharge due to the volatility of aviation fuel prices. Monies paid to other entities for living expenses, flight check-rides or additional training hours are not included. It is the policy of San Diego Flight Training International Inc. not to allow passengers in our aircraft or request an end of course check-ride until the pilot applicant has demonstrated the proficiency and satisfactory skills required as outlined in the FAA Practical Test Standards for that particular
